Think of New Milford,
and the quintessential New England village
green comes to mind.
Village life today is centered
on the green, much as it was
100 years ago. The town's
most loved, and biggest community
event is the Annual
Village Fair Days, held every
summer.
Local merchants, community
organizations and special
groups set up shop along the
green for two days of fun.
Traditional events are the
Rotten Sneaker Contest, Kid's
Fun Run and Men's Best Leg
Contest. The festivities also
include antiques, crafts, fine art,
and mouth-watering treats.
Today's New Milford is home
to both residential and commercial
properties. Major
corporations such as Nestle,
Kimberly Clark, and K-Mart fit
right along with the numerous
privately owned businesses,
shops and eateries.
The beautification and rejuve
nation of New Milford's down
town area, especially Bank and
East Main streets, allows resi
dents and visitors to appreci
ate the historic buildings and
enjoy the many stores and
restaurants the town has to
offer.
Further commercial develop
ment along Route 7 also adds
to the commerce of New
Milford.
New Milford Hospital and the
New Milford Hospital
Columbia Presbyterian
Regional Cancer Center are
bringing state-of-the-art med
ical diagnoses and treatment
to area residents, as well as
those from out of state.
The New Milford school sys
tem continues to provide qual
ity education to all its stu
dents. In 2000, the district
opened a new, multi-million
dollar high school that will
continue to help bring the chil
dren of New Milford programs
to help move into the new mil
lennium.
 There is something for every
one in New Milford. The
town's many clubs and organi
zations provide outlets for a
wide range of interests and
activity levels.
Bisected by the Housatonic River, New Milford has come to be known as the " Gateway to the Litchfield Hills." The beauty of both the town's private and public parks, as well as state camping sites, and numerous golf courses, provide an assortment of outdoor activities.
